2. Slot scanner barcode reader
Slot scanner barcode reader is needed to scan a bank card or employee card. We have to pull the card through the scanner’s slot to scan the information.
There are mainly two types of slot barcode reader. One is visible light barcode reader which is more common today.
Another is infrared slot barcode reader which is usually being used for security purpose such as verifying ID cards and so on.
3. CCD scanner barcode reader
CCD stands for Charge Coupled Device. CCD barcode readers also known as LED scanner which has hundreds of tiny LED lights in a row.
CCD scanners are usually used in retail sales which has a better range than pen wand barcode reader.
Normally CCDs are very expensive and gives highly accurate information.
4. Image scanner barcode reader
Image scanner barcode reader also called 2D camera reader because it has a small camera to capture the image of the barcode.
They can hold more data than other types of barcode reader.
The camera works with hundreds of tiny lights as a CCD barcode reader. Only difference is that here lights are arranged in different rows.
The captured picture is sent to a software and the software then decodes the information of that barcode.
5. Laser scanner barcode reader
Laser scanner barcode reader is more advanced which can be handheld or stationary.
It works with laser beams of light and can scan from more distance like 25 inches to several feet. It gives more speed than any other barcode reader.
How to choose the best barcode reader?
When it comes to choosing the right barcode reader for your business, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, what type of scanning do you need?
If you just need to read barcodes off of packages or products, a handheld scanner is likely enough.
However, if you need to read barcodes off of documents or other large objects, a barcode scanner with a laser is likely the best option.
Next, what are your budget constraints? Barcode readers range in price from around $50 to over $1,000, so it’s important to determine what you need and what you can afford.
Also, be aware that some features, such as Duplex scanning, are more expensive than others.
Finally, what are your business needs? Do you need to be able to print out scanned data?
