A stylus is an instrument like pen which is used to point, swipe or draw on a touchscreen like finger.
It looks like a pen except it doesn’t need ink. Styli is the plural form of stylus. Some stylus pen gives the facility to write on a paper also.
Here, the ink pen and stylus are on the same side or different side.
It has a conductive rubber which works instead of your finger on the touchscreen.
Stylus saves our touchscreen from more pressure we give by our fingers. Moreover, we can use a stylus when we wear a hand glove.
Stylus pens are a type of pen that uses a stylus to write. They are often used to write on touch screens or other electronic screens.
Types of stylus pen
There are mainly two types of stylus we use today. They are as follows;
- Active stylus
- Passive or capacitive stylus
1. Active stylus
An active stylus is generally larger than passive stylus which has a tip like a pen. It includes internal memory, electronic erasers and pressure sensitivity that measure your given pressure.
Active stylus is most popular among the artists because of its pressure sensitivity.
Its internal component has made it larger than passive one. We can use an active stylus with one device only.
2. Passive stylus or capacitive stylus
Passive stylus is the simplest type of stylus. It works through the electrical charge from the finger to screen.
Passive stylus is also called capacitive stylus and by this we can tap directly on the touchscreen. Passive stylus is not accurate as active stylus.
It doesn’t have internal memory, or other electrical component like touch sensitivity. For this it can’t communicate with device.
Capacitive stylus can be used in different touchscreen unlike active stylus.
Purpose of using a stylus
There are several purposes of using a stylus today with our device. Some of these are given bellow;
Advantages of Stylus
There are many advantages to using a stylus pen over a traditional pen. One advantage is that stylus pens are easier to control.
You don’t need to use as much pressure when writing with a stylus pen, which makes it easier to write precisely.
Also, stylus pens are more accurate when it comes to drawing. They don’t smudge or smear the ink, making it easier to create clear lines.
Finally, stylus pens are less likely to leave ink residue on your paper, which can make it easier to erase your work.
Disadvantages of Stylus
There are a few disadvantages to using a stylus pen.
One is that the pen is difficult to hold for long periods of time.
Another disadvantage is that the pen can be difficult to use if you have large hands or if you have difficulty gripping objects.
Additionally, the stylus pen can be difficult to erase or remove from paper.
How to choose a good Stylus pen?
There are many things to consider when choosing a stylus pen. The pen’s size and weight, the material it is made of, the point size, and the grip are all important factors.
When choosing a stylus pen, it is important to consider the size and weight of the pen. Many stylus pens are small and lightweight, making them easy to carry around.
However, some people prefer heavy, bulky pens because they feel more comfortable using them.
Another important factor to consider when choosing a stylus pen is the material it is made of. Most stylus pens are made of a plastic or metal material.
Metal pens are often more durable than plastic pens, but they can be more difficult to hold onto. Plastic pens are generally easier to hold, but they may not be as durable.
The point size of a stylus pen is also important. A small point size is easier to use for small details, such as writing on a touchscreen.
